Companies are having trouble reporting on how sustainable they are. Everyone agrees that it’s important for companies to report on their sustainability, but there’s no one right way to do it. This makes it hard for investors and other people to compare how sustainable different companies are. Private companies are even less likely to report on their sustainability than public companies, probably because they don’t have to follow the same rules as public companies. But as more and more people want to know how sustainable companies are, private companies are likely to have to start reporting on it too.
